POOLE Pirates finished second at the inaugural World Speedway League in Poland.
The reigning British top-flight champions were beaten by Swedish outfit Piraterna, with hosts Zielona Gora third and Denmark's Esbjerg fourth.
Poole tracked just two members of this year's line-up - Maciej Janowski and Shamek Pawlicki - in their team.
The other places were taken by Greg Walasek, Leon Madsen and Thomas H Jonasson, who was suffering with tonsillitis.
Result: Piraterna 36, Poole 32, Zielona Gora 30, Esbjerg 19.
