CHERRIES boss Eddie Howe insisted he had not been concerned by Callum Wilson’s dry run during September after his star striker kicked off October with a brace.

Sharpshooter Wilson’s double ensured Cherries went into the international break on the back of a morale-boosting 2-1 victory at Bolton.

The 22-year-old frontrunner, who made the big-money move to Dean Court from hometown club Coventry City over the summer, netted five times during his first month leading the Cherries line.

But following the campaign’s first two-week sabbatical, Wilson found goals harder to come by and had failed to net in five league starts prior to deciding Saturday’s clash in Lancashire.

And Howe, who has started Wilson in every Championship fixture so far this season, remained adamant that Cherries’ prized asset had brought plenty to the table during his brief barren spell.

Howe told the Daily Echo: “For me, Callum’s time without a goal was never a problem as long as his performance levels remained high and they have done.

“At Watford he was nearly unplayable. He didn’t score that day but I was delighted with his all-round game.

“But those goals will do him the world of good, strikers thrive on scoring and it will give him an extra boost.

“The second was a lovely ball from Harry Arter and he (Wilson) probably knew that would be his last chance in the game and a big chance for us at 1-1.

“He took it superbly so I was delighted with him and it capped off what has been a great start to his Bournemouth career.”

Kaye is set to replace Callum Buckley who returns to Dean Court.
