BOSS Rob Lyon believes an affinity to Poole’s track can provide King’s Lynn with the leg up they need to overturn their play-off deficit.

Poole Pirates take a narrow advantage into the home leg of their Elite League semi-final against the Stars next Monday after winning 45-44 in Norfolk last night.

Lyon felt that heavy downpours prior to the first meeting had played a part in cancelling out King’s Lynn’s home advantage but remained upbeat ahead of the decider in Dorset.

The Stars manager and co-promoter told the Daily Echo: “All three of our home meetings against Poole this season have been affected by the weather. It was a definitely a leveller.

“Credit to Poole, they came to do a job and put on a solid show. They didn’t do anything exceptionally well and the score reflected that.

“But from our point of view, the weather intervened and took the edge off any home advantage we had.

“I always thought it would be a tight meeting, even with a normal track. I predicted both legs would be close and have seen nothing to change my view on that.

“I couldn’t fault the commitment of my team and we go to Poole in a positive frame of mind because we get round there pretty well. We’re quite happy to go there instead of facing one of the more obscure tracks.

“It’s not over yet. Poole have to be favourites because they’re taking an advantage to their own track but knock-outs can produce strange results. It’s going to be tense, without a doubt.”
