WIGAN manager Uwe Rosler admitted that conceding the first goal at Dean Court had given his side a tricky task that they could not surmount.

Yann Kermorgant nodded Cherries in front eight minutes before the break and Simon Francis doubled the lead midway through the second period.

The visiting boss was disappointed that his team had not executed their game plan early on and said the opening goal had handed Cherries the impetus.

Rosler told Wigan’s official website: “Every defeat is tough when you are manager of Wigan Athletic and I’m disappointed that we didn’t execute the game plan from the first minute like we set out.

“I felt we got it right after 20 or 25 minutes as we limited them to playing on one side which allowed us to set out a good shape and not pressure them high.

“It was never discussed that we would pressure them high in their box and get stretched.

“I felt at that moment we had balanced the game out and looked dangerous on the counter. I was quite happy because I felt we were right in the game.

“Then the goal came, out of nothing other than getting outmuscled at the back post.

“In the second half, the score played into the hands of Bournemouth who have a striker who permanently runs into the channels (Callum Wilson) and it’s very hard to deal with that when you play high in midfield.

“I’m disappointed that we couldn’t break them down and that we didn’t have the power or the belief to score goals.”
