WALLISDOWN golfer Georgia Hall admitted a heavy dose of determination had proved the catalyst for her first professional tournament win yesterday.

The 18-year-old, who turned pro in July, scooped 4,863 euro in prize money following her four-shot triumph at the Open Generali de Strasbourg.

Heading into the final round at Golf de Strasbourg as joint-leader alongside France’s Cassandra Kirkland and Italy’s Vittoria Valvassori, Hall pulled ahead with birdies on three and four.

However, bogeys at five and eight resulted in the ex-Curtis Cup star slipping a shot behind Kirkland, only for a birdie blitz after the turn to shake the order up once more.

Formerly Europe’s number one amateur, Hall made gains at four successive holes and went on to wrap up a memorable success ahead of Kirkland, Daisy Nielsen and amateur Manon de Roey.

The teenager, who carded 10-under-par overall, admitted she had been desperate to secure her maiden professional victory and revealed that adopting a calm approach had paid dividends.

Hall told the Daily Echo: “I was really happy to win. I tried to play steadily throughout the whole week, keep a level head and not think about it.

“The point where I knew I had won was when I hit my drive on the last hole and it found the fairway.

"The only time I was nervous was for a couple of holes in the second round when I was leading by two, but I think that ended up helping me for the last round.

“In the last round I thought, ‘I’m in this position and I don’t want to give it away’. I just wanted to play well and try and hole putts, and that’s what I did.”

Victory in the Access Series event propelled Hall up to 13th in the order of merit, which kept alive her hopes of a top-five finish and a Ladies’ European Tour (LET) spot in 2015.

Hall plans to play in two of the three remaining Access events, the first being the Grecotel Amirandes Ladies Open in Crete from October 10-12.

She will secure a place in LET final qualifying if she finishes between sixth and 20th in the Access order of merit.

“I think I will probably have to win both events to get on the full tour automatically,” she added.

“My aim was to get in the top 20 as I am only due to play six events and I would be really happy with that. It would be a big help to go straight to final qualifying.”
