BASHLEY ended a miserable 25-match winless run with an odds-defying 2-0 success at high-flying Taunton Town.

Few would have given the Southern South & West strugglers much hope against the high-flying Peacocks who had not lost in their previous 15 league games.

But Bashley's co-manager Graham Speechley-Price watched on with pride as one of the most familiar faces in his squad, son Mitchell Speechley-Price, struck the opener before the club's latest recruit Clive Makoni completed the coupon buster.

Taunton were dominant early on and spurned several presentable openings before missing the perfect chance to move in front when Steve Murray steered his penalty wide of Callum Maher's upright after 16 minutes.

The hosts failed to make further pressure count and Bash seized their opportunity six minutes before half-time when Speechley-Price fired Bouwe Bosma's corner past home custodian Joe Perry.

Another mishap saw the visitors double their tally four minutes later as Makoni latched on to a poor back header and calmly rounded Perry to sidefoot home.

Taunton lacked enough guile to break down a revitalised, hard-working Bash side who celebrated their first competitive win since March 1.

Bash: Maher, Morse, Moore, Oldring, Thoroughgood, Hall, L Speechley-Price, Bosma (Kinley, 71), Makoni (Dunne, 77), Pereira, M Speechley-Price (Brading, 57).
