WEST Hants Tennis Club will chase international glory at the end of this month after qualifying for the European Senior Club Tennis Championships.

The Bournemouth club’s women’s over-60s team will compete against the cream of continental talent at La Manga Club in Murcia, Spain.

Pauline Fisher, Alisa Hockey and Carol Dickie will face defending champions Warwick Boat Club, The 45 Club - runners-up for the last two years - and teams from the Netherlands and Austria as they bid to be crowned champions.

Founded in 1983, the tournament is open to men over 35 and women aged 40-plus from national champion clubs and runners-up across various age categories.

Each country is represented by a maximum of three clubs in every sector, with teams comprising between four to seven players in the men’s categories and between two and five in the women’s.

Hopes of an English victory will be high this year with all parts of the country represented, including two teams from Hampshire.

The championship is set to be held at La Manga Club for the third year in a row from September 22 until October 4.

The seniors categories – aged 35 and upwards – will take place from September 22-27, with men’s age groups ranging from 35-plus to over-50s and women’s from 40-plus to over-50.

The spotlight will then fall on the super seniors categories for the remainder of the championship.

Male players between the ages of 55-plus to over 77 and women between 55-plus and 65-plus are set to feature.

Previous winners include entrants from England, Germany, Portugal, France, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic.
