DORSET’S Gregg Parker (VC ST Raphael) was the best-placed local rider at the 10-mile time trial championships held in Yorkshire last weekend.

Weymouth rider Parker posted a personal best time of 19:35 but on a super-fast day, that was only good enough for 54th place.

Jubilee’s northern-based Nick Frewin recorded 20:30, while former Bournemouth Jubilee Wheeler Matt Bottrill (Drag2Zero) clocked 17:40 – the second fastest time for the distance – to win the national title and score an impressive hat-trick.

Bottrill won the 50-mile title on Dorset roads in June before winning the 25-mile crown in July.

Parker is in action at Upton this weekend in the Poole Wheelers open 25. He will face stiff competition from Steve Walking, Mike Ford, Simon Berogna and Poole Wheeler Terry Icke.

n Just two months after winning two of the Tour de France’s British stages in July, Marcel Kittel returns to the UK at the Friends Life Tour of Britain, which begins in Liverpool on Sunday.

The German sprint king will resume his rivalry with Britain’s Mark Cavendish.

Former Tour de France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins will be out to defend his title, the race visits the south on stage five, starting in Exmouth, crossing Dartmoor before finishing in Exeter.
