ASSISTANT boss Jason Tindall wants teenage Cherries striker Josh O'Hanlon to use Charlie Austin as his inspiration to make the grade.

Tindall believes comparisons between the pair would be unfair at this stage - even though there are a number of similarities.

O'Hanlon, a powerfully-built frontman, has netted five goals in six games during a youth loan with Poole Town, the club where Austin's rise to the Premier League started in 2008.

Dubliner O'Hanlon cut his teeth in the non-league ranks with League of Ireland outfit Longford Town before earning a £50,000 move to Dean Court in January.

The 18-year-old was unearthed by Eddie Howe who was also the first manager to spot Austin, although a transfer embargo prevented him from signing for Cherries in September 2009.

Tindall, who worked alongside Howe when Austin joined Burnley for £1million in January 2011, told the Daily Echo: “When any young player goes on loan, you hope they do themselves justice and perform really well. We felt it was the best thing for Josh and he needed a run of games at a competitive level.

“Scoring goals for Poole will do his confidence the world of good and, if he maintains that ratio, he will have a good chance of knocking on the door when he comes back.

“It is not fair to compare Josh with Charlie. Charlie scored consistently for Poole and I don't think there were too many strikers in the country with a better ratio than his while he was there.

“It is a great start for Josh but to get to Charlie's level, you have to do it on a consistent basis. Charlie should be an inspiration to Josh to think that if he keeps scoring goals then who knows where it could take him.

“He is willing and wants to learn. When players come from that level in Ireland, they are a little behind in terms of coaching and there is a period of time when they need to adapt and settle.

“We felt the time was right for Josh to go to a club like Poole to play consistently and competitively. He has made a great start so long may it continue.”

O'Hanlon is set to start when Poole host Southern Premier Division rivals Biggleswade on Saturday, while his loan is expected to be extended for a second month following next week's trip to Redditch.

Dolphins' Keith Emmerson (ankle) is in contention to start for the first time this season and Lamin Dibba is available again.

Carl Pettefer serves the third of a three-match suspension, while Marvin Brooks (ankle) is still a couple of weeks away from fitness.
