PARLEY captain Tom Jacques praised Roshan Embalagama and teenager Alex Sands as the cornerstone of the three-wicket victory over Broadstone.

Second in Premier One Group A, Parley kept the pressure on leaders Poole Town with a well-earned triumph at the Delph.

And captain Jacques singled out the closing partnership of Embalagama and the 14-year-old Sands as key to his team’s success.

While Embalagama was in typically aggressive form with a hefty 96 off 83 balls, Sands toughed out 37 balls for six runs as he played a valuable support role.

Jacques said: “The partnership of 79 between Roshan and young Alex Sands must have been the most controlled one I’ve seen this year and won us the game.

“Roshan’s knock of 96 was a terrific performance and I was so impressed with Alex’s support which showed great maturity for a 14-year-old under immense pressure from the opposition.

“Prior to that we had bowled well and Ollie Green’s four for |34 was crucial in keeping their total down to an achievable target.”

Broadstone were put into bat after losing the toss and the mainstay of their innings was Pete Russell, who fell on 99.

Matt Jones (30) and Sean Hatton (30) also contributed well but Russell’s dismissal by Dom Clutterbuck saw the tail fall away as Green cranked up the pressure.

Chasing a target of 224, Parley lost Clutterbuck and Alex Nippard early on before Jacques (26) and Jamie Price (37) steadied the ship.

With the score on 87, Embalagama took charge and after the loss of Luke Condron (19), he and Sands saw Parley home in the 48th over with a partnership of 79.

Ben Simmons impressed most with the ball for Broadstone as he took three for 50 off his 10 overs, with Jacques, Price and Green all falling to his deliveries.

Parley’s title hopes were not aided by table-toppers Poole Town, who swept to a 107-run success at Weymouth.

Poole totalled 216 for seven from their innings before skittling the hosts out for just 109.

Three weekends of fixtures remain before the Group A champion can be crowned, with Poole’s current advantage over Parley being 19 points.
