PROMOTER Matt Ford hopes Shamek Pawlicki will make a swift return after confirming the Pole is nursing a small break to his collarbone.

Pawlicki was withdrawn from action after a fall in heat five of Saturday’s 45-45 draw at Leicester and subsequently spent the night in hospital.

Further investigations confirmed preliminary fears that the 22-year-old heat leader had suffered a break and Pawlicki has since been flown back to his native Poland, despite initial suggestions that he would remain in England for treatment.

Ford told the Daily Echo: “Shamek has gone home to begin treatment but he was hopeful that he would be back in action sooner rather than later having been told it was a small, clean break.

“It is testament to his character that he wants to get back so quickly and all being well, we may see him back in a couple of weeks.”

Ford has drafted in Edward Kennett as guest replacement for Wednesday’s home meeting with Eastbourne Eagles.

The Wimborne Road chief also confirmed that the club still had yet to hear anything on any potential sanctions for skipper Darcy Ward. The Aussie ace failed an alcohol test ahead of the Latvian Grand Prix nine days ago.

  • Poole reserve Kyle Newman produced an imperious seven-heat maximum to successfully defend the Belgium Golden Helmet Championship in Heusden-Zolder on Sunday.

Dorset-based Newman completed his five qualifying rides with maximum points and went on to win his semi-final heat.

And the rookie charger was in no mood to let up in the final, dominating from the tapes to complete a near-faultless display.
