JAY Lelliott safely negotiated a path into tomorrow night’s 1500m final with a solid swim in this morning’s heats.

The Swim Bournemouth ace, who scooped bronze in the 400m freestyle on Monday, is hoping for another medal to add to his growing collection.

The 19-year-old, a Commonwealth Games finalist in the 1500m last month, clocked 15:06.88 in Berlin to qualify fifth-fastest for the final.

That effort was just a second slower than the personal best time the teenager swam in the Commonwealths final.

Lelliott, who underwent two operations to remove a recurrent brain tumour when he was 12 and 13, is due to compete in the 200m butterfly heats tomorrow morning.

The butterfly semi-finals are tomorrow evening with the final due to take place on Thursday.

Lelliott is making his Great Britain debut in Germany having competed for England in his first international meet last month.
