SWIM Bournemouth’s Jay Lelliott scorched to another personal best but finished out of the medals in the 1500m freestyle final at the Commonwealth Games.

The 19-year-old flyer clocked 15:05.83 at Tollcross International Swimming Centre this evening, which was good enough for sixth and knocked more than six seconds off the heat time that was his previous PB.

Lelliott, who underwent two operations to remove a recurrent brain tumour when he was 12 and 13, had qualified eighth-fastest for his first senior international final.

Reigning champion Ryan Cochrane of Canada took gold (14:44.03) ahead of Australia’s 2013 world junior champion Mack Horton (14:48.76).

Wales’ Dan Jervis (14:55.33) snatched bronze away from Australia’s Jordan Harrison in the closing metres.
