PARLEY left it late to edge a Dorset Saturday League thriller with Poole Town at Dean Park.

The visitors set a target of 231 for nine which Parley surpassed in the 48th over, handing them a one-wicket victory.

For Poole, Ciaran Quinn top-scored with a knock of 82 and opener Nick Evans also pitched in with 51. Ollie Green was the pick of the Parley bowlers with three for 25, while Ollie Shrubsole and Dom Clutterbuck both secured two-wicket hauls.

In reply, Parley made it to 169 for eight before Tom Blackley (13) and Roshan Embalagama added 29 for the ninth wicket.

Jamie Hicks (10*) was then supported Embalagama (60*) down the home stretch and the latter smashed a straight six to wrap up the win.

Parley skipper Tom Jacques said: “Each year we seem to have a game with a nail-biting finish against Poole. Roshan played a fantastic team innings to see us home but I cannot praise Tom and Jamie enough.”

Elsewhere in the division, Wimborne & Colehill suffered a three-wicket defeat at fellow strugglers Stalbridge. The visitors had totalled a more-than- respectable 257 for seven but Stalbridge reached 261 for seven in reply to take victory.

Basement battlers Ferndown Wayfarers set a target of 217 for eight at home to Weymouth and in reply their opponents could only manage 188 all out, giving the hosts a surprise 29-run win.

In County Division Three, Wareham kept their promotion bid alive with a thumping nine- wicket victory at Christchurch II.

After skipper Steve Bishop claimed the first victim in the fourth over, left-armer Mike Collier burst into action as he took a hat-trick to leave the hosts on 29 for four.

Wickets continued to fall steadily and a ninth-wicket stand of 40 saw Christchurch crawl to 107 all out. Collier ended up with terrific figures of five for 24, while Bishop took two for 27 and there were further wickets for with Charlie Parsons, Martin Upshall and Jack Hector.

Wareham made their intentions clear from the start of their innings when Bishop hit three boundaries off the first over.

Hector then arrived at the crease and he and his captain forged a 103 partnership before the latter was bowled for 48.

Hector hit the winning runs with a thumping six, which left him on 50 not out for the day.

Wareham are just four points behind league leaders Sturminster Marshall following their weekend success.

Swanage avenged their heavy defeat at Broadstone in June with a 74-run success on home soil on Saturday.

The still-smarting Swans were keen to make amends for their six-wicket loss and elected to bat on a good track and fast outfield.

Matt Thomas was removed early on for a duck by Steve Trembath, bringing Ian Booth to
the wicket to join Mike Salmon.

This pair batted for the best part of 24 overs before Salmon (39) was caught behind.
Francis Kerins (10) and Booth then kept the scoreboard ticking over to 116.

Booth was finally run out for 71 with Swanage on 145 for four, but robust lower-order hitting by Ben Baczala (36), Dan Salmon (26) and Jem Warner (18) allowed the hosts to post 242 for eight.

Swanage youth product Mike Hernandez made early inroads into the visitors’ top order as the swing bowler took three for 23 in a seven-over spell.

With Broadstone on 49 for three, a handy partnership of 78 – which included 35 from Pete Russell – got the visitors back on track.

Leg-spinner Warner was then thrust into the attack and his haul of four for 17 off eight overs proved crucial in the final reckoning.

Broadstone crumbled from 127 for four to 141 for eight, before eventually being bowled out for 168.
