FORMER 16-stone smoker Steve Way this morning completed a remarkable journey from couch to world stage as he finished 10th in the Commonwealth Games marathon.
The Bournemouth Athletic Club member smashed his own personal best by one minute and 11 seconds as he clocked 2:15:16 in Glasgow.
That put the 40-year-old four minutes and one second behind race winner Michael Shelley, who grabbed gold for Australia in 2:11:15.
The 2010 silver medallist went one better this time out as he took top spot on the podium ahead of Kenya's Stephen Chemlany and Uganda's Philip Kiplimo.
Sturminster Marshall's Way, who led in the opening miles, broke the UK over-40 record as a result of his superb effort.
