MIDFIELDER Aly Coulibaly has signed a one-year deal with Cherries after a successful summer trial with the development squad.

The 18-year-old younger brother of Cherries winger Mohamed Coulibaly impressed coach Stephen Purches sufficiently during pre-season matches against Hamworthy Recreation and Poole Town to earn his chance in England.

Formerly on the books of French club Tours, Coulibaly junior trained briefly with Cherries last summer before being brought back for an extended period this year.

In an interview with the Echo earlier this month, Purches said: “He is a different type of player to anyone else we have in the group so are hoping he will prove to be a good addition as time goes on.

“The development squad is here to bring players through and get them used to the ethos of the club before trying to push them on even further.”

Meanwhile, Josh Carmichael will attend a training camp for Scotland under-20s in Leicestershire on Monday.

  • Cherries' youngsters are set for their third pre-season outing at Wimborne Town tomorrow (3pm).

Magpies will be without goalkeeper Jason Harvell, who is set for a charity cycle ride on a tandem with former team-mate Tom Jeffes in France. The challenge is in aid of the Steve Bernard Foundation.

Jamie Davidson (unavailable) also misses out but Cuthbury trialists Brad Strickland and Tom Biles will feature.
