AFC Bournemouth: Howe happy to shuffle his pack again

MANAGER Eddie Howe has said he will again rotate his squad next season and insists he has “no set team” ahead of Cherries’ new Championship campaign.

Howe has seen Cherries turn in three impressive displays during pre-season with the majority of his squad playing a part against FC Copenhagen, Eastleigh and Dorchester.

But with Cherries’ curtain-raiser against Huddersfield edging ever closer, Howe says his first starting line-up will have no bearing on the remainder of the season.

He told the Daily Echo: “There is no set team in my mind. With the quality of the squad and regardless of position, I don’t think there can be. It is going to be a season where I am going to rotate the squad.

“In essence, even if someone misses out on the first day, it is not the end of the world. There are a lot of players in the squad who are going to play a lot of games and we will need that strength in depth to make sure everybody is fresh when we come to the turn of the year.

“The first team will be important in the players’ minds but, in my mind, it is just for that game. We have a busy schedule at the start of the season and are going to need everybody.

“It is good to see everyone playing so well and in form. I think we have looked very good in the three games so far so, in that sense, the squad is in healthy shape.”

Howe, who has also tried several formations during pre-season, added: “We try to test the players and changed three or four times against Dorchester. I think it is good to have that in your armoury.

“We have looked at different things but I wouldn’t read too much into it. It is just a case of us experimenting and trying to get players in their best positions so when they do play, they can perform at their best.”

Good morning to all. Very sound thinking from E.H. again. I see a football team as a tool-box. You need enough tools in that box to do different jobs and each team played against represents a different job. Hence different combinations will be used to apply the most effective tactics. This has always been the most effective way but we are only just arriving in the privileged position to have enough tools. Far too often in past years we have been forced to send a Plumber to do a Sparky’s job. Not now. Up the Mighty Cherries!!!

Morning FF45, an very good analogy, it will be interesting to see who we put in on Friday to dis-assemble the Saints.

On the subject of friendlies, I had a look on our pick-a-seat ticket site yesterday, ther's still a lot of tickets left for Friday and even more for the Swansea game?

Finally, I can't resist it from this headline, so apologies in advance:

Isn't it exciting that for once we have got nearly to the end of the summer transfer period and have still got most of our core team from last season intact (I'm still keeping all my fingers crossed !!) From what we have seen from the games so far, for once Eddie is going into a new season with a true "pick-n-mix" squad available to him :-). I can't wait for the season to start.

I cant wait till Friday. I to noticed that there are so many seats unsold. Scumampton are bringing a sell out away support, which means I feel they will be more vocal then the Cherries.

As this is only 1 of 2/3 home pre season games I would assume that the cherries would be well supported!

Apparently when Ronald Koeman arrived at SCG (snigger) he checked the toolbox, only to find all the "power tools" had been sold off and all that was left was a bunch of spanners, however he was reassured that there would always be numerous tools attending home games.!!!!

Hope Eddie can keep a happy ship.

To start/continue the build up to Friday I’d like to copy over the following SteadyEddie comment from another thread last night (hope you don’t mind SE) as I think it’s very funny and may have been missed as it came in late.

Any truth that Stains will be playing 3 Dutch trialists.
Defender - Man de Mark
Striker - Schor de gaulle
GK- Kash de bawll
--------------------

I’d like to add in the guy that they have very high hopes for Manu Der Matcsh and sympathise with the Russian trialist who took one look around the town/city/dump and left in a screaming hurry, looks like they lost out on Iyam Offski then….ouch!

Anymore for anymore dodgy/humorous quips?

I don't think many supporters are too fused about Friday. We've played Saints so many times in pre-season and for £15 I feel it's too much to ask. In previous years £10 was the friendly price, and that's probably fair enough.

I'm saving up for the real stuff anyway, the £20 I save from the Saints game (when you take refreshments into account) will make Huddersfield and Exeter that bit easier to pay for.

THATS what I can't wait for - roll on August 9th.

I can actually see your twisted logic MA you really have missed the point this time.

I think I’d be closer to the truth if I said other clubs know there’s a fire-sale on at the s(t)inking ship and the crew can’t wait to jump overboard. As for the Cherries we’re on a nice steady ship on calm waters where no-one’s going overboard and there’s a happy crew so it’s a big hands off our boys to the other clubs as they know they’re wasting their time.

In conclusion I wouldn’t want to be in your hole-ridden, rusting hulk, SS South Coast Giants (snigger), I’d rather be on the SS Titanic – man the get-a-life-boats! glug, glug!!

I think you will find it will be the wingers that will be rotated . Not the defence or forwards . Once Callum establishes himself . Of cause he will bring forwards on , but he won't start with different forwards unless forced into it . I am convinced Callum will be a great player ...

Howe seems not to know where he has his players, not good news Im afraid. he will be hoping something will turn up without Grabban.
I think you will find it will be the wingers that will be rotated . Not the defence or forwards . Once Callum establishes himself . Of cause he will bring forwards on , but he won't start with different forwards unless forced into it . I am convinced Callum will be a great player ...
we hve heard that before, how long before you get on hs back? He will join TK and Pitman on your hate list.

Russian oligarchs who are close to Vladimir Putin have a week to get their cash out of Britain before sanctions are imposed, it has emerged.

European Union officials started on Tuesday to prepare the list of businessmen and Moscow officials who will be targeted by the sanctions.

Lets hope he will still pay the wages, otherwise we are f´´´´.
Amazed no one else mentioned this. maybe. dont go there attitude, hoping it will go away.

I was happily shuffling my pack yesterday.....
......disciplinary meeting with HR today :-(
Morning (afternoon in terms of your timing!!) Ted. Friday is a very important date in Nonno and Mrs Nonno's calendar 44th anniversary and that means that football does not feature in the vocabulary!! so you will have to shout a bit louder and make up for my absence . Up the Mighty Cherrieeeeeeeeeeeeee

sounds like she found you on holiday, another import.
It could have been you but fortunately for her she doesn't visit junk shops.

Not that I would bother to give you the time of day but you could not have been any wronger about your cheap jibe at foreigners however we do not expect any less from you now do we.

The press put all rich Russians into this one 'Russian oligarch' bucket. The reality is different. If I may split it into two generic buckets (which I'm sure is still simplistic):

Some of these mega rich Russian businessmen got to where they are through close ties with the Russian state, and are close to the Russian administration. They got involved in the break up of state owned assets but kept them close to the state.

Others got involved in the break up of state owned assets like energy, and use that business to move money out of Russia and into Europe where they have less scrutiny and more freedom. Putin hates this, it's taking what he sees as Russian resource into the west.

You would imagine the former would more likely be targeted by sanctions on Russia, rather than the latter. Looking at what (little) we knwo about Demin and his business partner's interests, you'd imagine they fit more into the latter bracket.

I mentioned the possibility that our Russian benefactors might become involved in the rush to apply sanctions some days ago. Their business interests are wide and involved from banking to petro chemicals most it seems outside Russia, whether they will become involved in sanctions is any ones guess. It's none of our business, Mr Demin and friends are very private men, who keep themselves to themselves and have never seen or heard of any link to the Putin circle. The main concern that I have for the Season is whether we will score enough goals, some of the sides visiting us will be very defensive and we always have difficulty with ultra defensive teams.
