THRILLED Scott Mitchell has spoken of his pride after being picked to represent England in the prestigious Europe Cup in September.

Bransgore thrower Mitchell is part of an eight-strong squad that will take on the cream of talent from across the continent in the Romanian capital of Bucharest.

And the 44-year-old, currently placed third in the England Darts Organisation (EDO) rankings, is relishing the chance to prove himself at the biennial tournament.

He told the Daily Echo: “Growing up I can remember seeing superstars in the England team and I have never seen myself as that sort of person, so to potentially have people looking at me like that will be pretty different.

“Because I compete on the circuit in Europe I will know a lot of the guys that will be there, but to know I’m playing them as part of the England side will be pretty special.

“I think there are five selectors so I’m really happy to be chosen as it’s much harder to please five people rather than one.

“This is fantastic for me. I’m continuing to achieve my dreams and I do wonder when it will stop.”

Making up the rest of the England team are Glen Durrant, Scott Waites, James Wilson, Lisa Ashton, Trina Gulliver, Deta Hedman and Lorraine Winstanley.

Mitchell endured a mixed time of it in two tournaments in Hull at the weekend, first losing 3-2 to Suffolk’s Tony Lincoln in the last 64 of the England National Singles.

He then suffered defeat to the Netherlands’ Jan Dekker in the last 16 of the England Masters, having already beaten Jamie Holmes (3-0), Martin Atkins (3-2) and Darren Hale (3-0).
