SKIPPER James Miller praised a strong display with the bat after Wimborne overcame Parley by 25 runs in Premier One.

Simon Woodruff and James Williams provided a sizeable chunk of the runs as the visitors totalled 261 for five at Dean Park.

Then, helped by a top-order demolition job from Tom Caines, Wimborne restricted their hosts to 236.

Miller said: “We had discussed beforehand that we needed to bat more positively and our game plan was to rotate the strike to keep the pressure on the bowlers.

“After winning the toss, it was vital we put a decent score on the board. Simon Woodruff and James Williams batted brilliantly and didn’t let any bowlers settle.

“It was good to see the youngsters took the attack to Parley and that got us in a great position at the end of the innings where we could attack.

“All season the atmosphere in the team has been electric and it’s great to be getting the results that we want now.”

Wimborne chose to bat and were on 40 when Colin Randall edged behind to Rob Viney off the bowling of Jamie Hicks.

Joe Weld (23) and Tom Caines (14) were dismissed by Dom Clutterbuck, leaving the visitors on 100 for three off 21 overs.

Left-handers Woodruff and Williams then took hold of the innings as they put on 87.

Williams was eventually caught off George Wilson having hit 48 off 51 balls and Woodruff (65) departed after being caught by Roshan Embalagama.

With three overs left, Graham Cole (28) and Miller (17) threw caution to the wind.

Parley looked on the right course after 22 overs as Viney (62) and Clutterbuck (45) put on 122 for the first wicket.

However, Caines then roared into life and dismissed both openers and number three Matt Clark for the gain of just six runs.

The middle order never quite got going after that and it was left to tail-enders Ollie Shrubsole (24) and Hicks (29) to make a game of it.

However, in the end Parley were dismissed for 236. Caines claimed four for 34.
