BUSY Pirates reserve Kyle Newman plans to celebrate his first Elite League paid maximum in style - by kicking back at the British Grand Prix on Saturday.

Newman, who racked up three race wins before playing the support role for Vaclav Milik in his final heat against Belle Vue last night, has been left with little time to savour his Wimborne Road success.

Following tonight's trip to Swindon, his focus will switch to tomorrow's Premier League pairs at Somerset after his selection as one of Plymouth Devils' top two riders.

But with a spot of free time to take in the Cardiff showpiece, Poole's popular rookie plans to let his success sink in once his other commitments are out of the way.

Newman told the Daily Echo: “I will enjoy it but not too much because of the meetings. Hopefully I can get my celebrations in at Cardiff but there is a lot to focus on in the meantime and it won't be the same unless I do myself justice.

“If I can get two nice results, the Grand Prix will be a nice way to wind down and reflect on a good week.”

On securing his first paid maximum on home shale, Newman added: “I was buzzing, it meant so much to do it at Poole and I needed a meeting like that.

"A month ago I was having mechanical problems which came straight after my injury and nothing seemed to be going right.

“We made a few changes but even last week I never felt like I had the speed and the worst part was struggling to put my finger on why.

"The way it all came together was a relief and to do it in front of the Poole crowd was pretty special. It's a memory that will stay with me.”
