SWANAGE vice-captain Ian Booth handed all the plaudits to Weymouth after they had emerged triumphant in the battle of the Dorset resorts at Redlands.

Depleted Swans were left to rue their decision to bat first and never fully recovered after losing their first three wickets with just four on the scoreboard.

Although Dan Salmon (50) grafted hard and tried to rebuild their innings, he received little support as Swans failed for the first time this season to bat out their 50 overs and were dismissed for 145.

Weymouth never looked flustered in the chase, even with Swans piling on as much pressure as they could thanks to Jem Warner (2-22) and Rob Hatchard, who both bowled well without much reward.

And with Matt Lawes (50) top scoring, Weymouth surpassed the visitors' score with only four wickets down in the 45th over at 148 for four to take over at the Premier Division summit.

Booth said: “I have a very high opinion of Kieron Womble and his Seasiders unit. Weymouth play cricket in an excellent spirit and have several handy players in their ranks.

"Swanage prides itself on being a solid unit, able to weather the ebbs and flows of a cricket season well. But Weymouth are the leading light in the DPL in this regard this season.”
