AFC Bournemouth: Dan Gosling keen to make the most of his fresh start with Cherries

Bournemouth Echo: BIG CHANCE: New AFC Bournemouth midfielder Dan Gosling BIG CHANCE: New AFC Bournemouth midfielder Dan Gosling

NEW recruit Dan Gosling feels he wasn’t given “the fairest of chances” to succeed at Newcastle United as he bids to make a fresh start with Cherries.

The midfielder became Eddie Howe’s first summer signing in May and joined off the back of a four-year spell with the Magpies where he found his opportunities limited under Alan Pardew.

Gosling had previously made his name at Everton where he scored an extra-time winner in an FA Cup fourth-round replay against Liverpool in 2009 and went on to feature in the Toffees’ 2-1 defeat to Chelsea in the final.

But the 24-year-old, who spent three months on loan at Blackpool last term, managed just 24 top flight appearances after linking up with Newcastle with more regular football his immediate target having landed at Dean Court.

He told the Daily Echo: “I really enjoyed my time at Newcastle but every footballer wants to play and unfortunately I didn’t play as much as I would have liked.

“The players they recruited were top-class internationals like Yohan Cabaye (now at Paris Saint-Germain) and Cheick Tiote and it was hard to get them out of the team.

“I don’t think I had the fairest of chances but that’s football, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. It was a place that I really enjoyed but the football side was not what I had hoped for.

“Every player knows it’s hard to switch it on and off and that probably sums up my time there.

“A few people behind the scenes probably thought differently about me and thought I could offer something, but it was one of those things and now I just move on.

“I know the Championship is a very difficult league having come down for three months on loan last season.

"The league is very competitive and there are big teams and big players, so it’s going to be a tough year both for me and the team.”

Be amazed if it's Arter that loses out, Eddie loves him and we are always a much better team when he plays, I know the anti Harry brigade will now be straight on here and I know he ain't perfect but he plays for me

It could be that Pugh could be sacrificed and re-jig the midfield completely.
