MATT Tubbs says he could not have done any more to force his way into Eddie Howe's plans after effectively ending his spell at Cherries.

The 29-year-old striker, who joined from Crawley Town on a three-and-a half-year deal in January 2012, will spend the upcoming campaign on loan at AFC Wimbledon.

Although he missed out on the matchday squad just once during Cherries' promotion from League One, six-goal Tubbs started only nine matches in all compeitions.

The former Salisbury City hitman had loan stints at Rotherham United and Crawley Town last term and turned down a return to the latter outfit on a permanent deal this summer.

He subsequently penned a season-long loan deal at Kingsmeadow before revealing he had done all he could at Dean Court.

Tubbs told the Daily Echo: “I'm 30 in a couple of weeks and it didn't take a rocket scientist to work out that my chances at Bournemouth would be slim to none. I got my head round that early on.

“Every footballer wants to play and no footballer is happy to be sat on the bench. It was disappointing at Bournemouth at times but in my last full season, the lads did unbelievably well and we gained promotion.

“Although I played a bit-part role, it was pleasing to see how Eddie Howe came in and changed the philosophy of the whole team. He made sure the team were playing the right way and the fans loved it.

“From my own point of view, there wasn't really anything I could have done. The lads were winning and as a result gained promotion to the Championship.

“I've got absolutely no regrets because it was an unbelievable time and I loved it there. There's nothing better than putting on the shirt of your home town club, making appearances and scoring goals.

“I have great memories from my time at Bournemouth which will last me forever.”

With his season-long switch finalised, Verwood-raised Tubbs is keen to breathe new life into his career in stable surroundings.

“This is the start of a new chapter,” he added.

“I spoke to Neal Ardley at length after the season finished and he came across really positively and was really keen to get me.

“I know I'm going to be at Wimbledon for a year so I've got stability and it's a case of getting my head down.

“I can concentrate on scoring goals and come the end of the season, other clubs might come in for me or I might extend my deal at Wimbledon - you just don't know.”
