VENTNOR’S Chris Ridley finally claimed the bragging rights over brother Simon as the Islanders condemned Bashley to a first defeat of the season in the top flight.

The pair, heroes of Bournemouth’s Cockspur Cup triumph in 2010, both reluctantly found new clubs after the majority of the all-conquering Lions outfit had gone their separate ways.

And with this fixture having fallen foul of the weather for the past two seasons, the brothers had been forced to wait until Saturday to square up on opposite sides.

Simon Ridley (2-47) and Andy Neal (2-25) were both among the wickets as Ventnor recovered from 20 for three and 113 for five to close on 231 for seven.

The Bashley reply got off to a positive start with opener Michael Porter (43) hitting nine fours in his 48-ball stay before he was the third man out with the score on 101.

Although skipper Richard Morris (47) also looked in good nick, a flurry of wickets – including Simon Ridley being caught behind by brother Chris – saw Bash slip to 164 for nine.

And while Ross Grierson (27*) and Jake Lilley (17) put on 48 for the last wicket, their efforts proved in vain as Ventnor upset the formbook to chalk up their first win of the season, running out victors by 19 runs.

Meanwhile, Lymington were on the receiving end of a heavy 169-run defeat at the hands of champions South Wilts at the Sports Ground.

Former Bournemouth man Joe Cranch top scored with a rapid 70 as South Wilts declared having posted a formidable 312 for seven (Darren Cowley 4-74, Dom Hand 2-45).

And although Cowley (42) and Ed Ellis (33*) both offered strong resistance, Lymington were unable to hold on and were dismissed for 143 just 12 minutes before close of play.
