GEORGIA Hall completed a proud weekend for Dorset golf as she ended her historic Curtis Cup appearance in fine style on Sunday.

The Parkstone ace became the county’s first player to represent Great Britain & Ireland at the highest level of amateur team competition in 19 years when she turned out at St Louis Country Club.

Former British amateur champion Lee James featured in the 14-10 Walker Cup win over the United States at Royal Porthcawl in 1995, but since then Dorset has missed out on such prestigious amateur competitions.

Hall seized her moment with impressive conviction even though as a team, Great Britain & Ireland suffered a 13-7 defeat to their United States counterparts.

Controversially overlooked for a spot in the side that triumphed in Nairn, Scotland two years ago, the 18-year-old helped rack up two of the seven points that the tourists scored in Missouri.

She came into her own during Sunday’s singles matches when pitted against Kyung Kim, who has appeared in the past three US Women’s Open Championships.

Hall edged into the lead against her opponent and when faced with a 95-yard approach on the 15th, hit a superb shot straight into the cup for an eagle three.

And the world amateur number 14 closed out the match at the very next hole to triumph 3&2.

Afterwards Hall tweeted: “Gotta say thats the best shot I have ever hit today! 95 yards holed! Glad to win my singles point today, so proud of the team for digging in.”

That match rounded off three days of hard-fought competition between the nations as the US ensured the tourists missed out on just a second Curtis Cup win across the pond.

Hall and partner Stephanie Meadow were defeated 2&1 by Mariah Stackhouse and Emma Talley in Friday’s four-ball but halved their foursomes match against Ashlan Ramsey and Alison Lee.

The duo lost Saturday’s four-ball 4&2 to Lee and Kim and then poor weather and darkness caused their foursomes match against Stackhouse and Ally McDonald to run into Sunday, with the contest eventually halved.

Great Britain & Ireland trailed 9.5-2.5 prior to the closing eight singles matches, which brought the curtain down on the event.
