Football: Tight-lipped manager Steve Cuss in control of convicted Billy Maybury's Wimborne Town future

Bournemouth Echo: COURT APPEARANCE: Wimborne Town defender Billy Maybury COURT APPEARANCE: Wimborne Town defender Billy Maybury

CHAIRMAN Ken Stewart says he will support any decision taken by manager Steve Cuss regarding Billy Maybury’s future at Wimborne Town following the defender’s conviction on two counts of assault.

Maybury was sentenced to a 12-month supervision order, 125 hours of community service and charged £570 in costs having lashed out at Alexander Gill and Adam Wilson after an evening in Bournemouth nightclub Cameo last November.

The 20-year-old left-back initially joined the Magpies on loan from Cherries where he came through the youth setup prior to his release in April 2012. Having made the move permanent, he signed a contract in March, committing his future to the Cuthbury club until the summer of 2015.

When approached by the Daily Echo, Cuss refused to discuss the situation or Maybury’s future at the club, while Stewart said he did not wish to comment on what he considered “a private matter”.

Stewart added: “Steve Cuss is the man in full charge of the team and all I can say is that it is down to him to make any comment for the club.”

Bournemouth Magistrates’ Court heard that Maybury approached both men on the dance floor at Fir Vale Road club at around 3.30am on the night in question.

Prosecutor Heather Jackson said: “After a short discussion, he head-butted Mr Gill to the face, causing him immediate pain. He then punched Mr Wilson, causing him to fall to the ground and become unconscious.”

Initially, Maybury had told the court he was not guilty of two counts of assault by beating.

However, he changed his plea last month, and told magistrates he was “sorry” for the attack. “There has been a mistake made here,” he said. “No one deserves what I did. I acted prematurely to the situation and I’m sorry about it.”

He sounds like a real role model for the youngsters. Wonder what Eddie Howe would do....!
Still, it was 3:30 am, he was probably tired, so fair enough I guess. And they probably had it coming to them.
The behaviour of the players reflects on the club, so we'll see what action is taken.

I personally know that boy. He's a genuine every nice boy who made a simple mistake when drunk. He has no history of violence or any other wrong doing before. Had a good up bringing and comes from a good family. He is also a top player. Keep him. Everybody deserves a second chance. Especially as he has no history of doing anything like this before. People who also know him will know he is sorry and ashamed. In don't think Wimborne will sack him and I don't think they should.

I know him and watch him play most weeks. I have not seen him booked. Outside the game he is a nice guy who has helped with the younger players.
No mention of why he hit the 2 "innocent" men. It was silly but it was 2 against 1, so all get over it.

I agree, his discipline on the pitch can not be questioned, he isn't employed by Wimborne 24/7 , he has been punished now move on,
