Cricket: Parley pair's century paves the way for success over Broadstone

A CENTURY stand between Rob Viney and Ollie Green rescued reeling leaders Parley and paved the way for Saturday’s three-wicket success over Broadstone.

The hosts’ pursuit of 185 got off to a nightmare start when Will Hendy was dismissed for a duck before Jamie Price’s early exit saw the Dorset Funeral Plan Saturday League champions stuck on seven for two.

However, Viney (66) produced a polished performance with seven fours and a six off his 94 balls with number-four Ollie Green (34) providing able assistance as 110 was added for the third wicket.

Tom Jacques (47*) continued the recovery with a strong strike-rate from his 59 balls as the Dean Park outfit hit their target with four overs to spare.

Green’s innings saw him become the stand-out performer having claimed four wickets for just 19 runs, despite Broadstone’s resolute opening.

Luke Carter (24) was Green’s first victim before Dominic Clutterbuck (2-37) eventually claimed the scalp of fellow opener and mainstay of the innings Jordan Watts (61).

Elsewhere, bottom club and ten-man Ferndown Wayfarers suffered a 191-run thrashing at home to Poole Town.

Dolphins were put in to bat and endured a testing start in which opener Badral Alam (30) and Ciaran Quinn (41) were forced to chip away steadily.

At 62 for three, Richard Armstrong (42) the visitors into action before Dameth Gunawardena lashed an unbeaten 75 off just 29 balls with eight fours and five sixes. David Miller (25*) joined him to torment the hosts as Poole racked up 264 for six.

Wayfarers never got going in response with opener Jordan Warren (26) their only player to hit double figures as they were dismissed for a paltry 73.

Poole’s Tim Taylor took three wickets from just four overs.
