Rugby: Bournemouth coach Crispin Cormack unconcerned by player exodus

Bournemouth Echo: . .

NEW boss Crispin Cormack insisted a player exodus was “not a concern” ahead of his summer of rebuilding at Bournemouth.

The core of the squad will be decimated by the exits of record point-scorer Dan Pollard, number eight Tommy Booth and hooker Frazer Wilford who are all taking jobs abroad.

Pollard, equally adept at fly-half or full-back, successfully landed 275 kicks on his way to 720 points across four years, while Wilford played more than 100 times during five years.

Full-back Karim Lynch is looking for a club closer to his London home, while scrum-half Jack Metters is moving to Australia. Rob Fuller and Russell Westcott have also gone.

Cormack, who worked as backs coach under Budge Pountney during last season’s relegation, admitted more could follow but was adamant the club would cope.

He said: “It is just one of those situations where a lot of our lads have been offered great opportunities to work abroad and all we can do is wish them well.

“We could still lose a couple of others because National Two South used to be a big carrot to entice players with but we believe we have enough quality.

“The club regularly receive emails from players all over the country who are interested in getting back into the game or from people from further afield keen to gain experience. It is great to see Bournemouth’s reputation reaching so many.

“It’s early days and not a concern at all because we have a good, strong base of players and we are going to add to that. If we weren’t getting the interest then I would have more to worry about. There are a lot of quality players in the area.”

Lions will make an early return, training twice a week from Thursday with Cormack keen to ensure his players fly out of the traps on their return to National Three South West.
