CHERRIES manager Eddie Howe is continuing to plot his next move into the transfer market after the arrival of Dan Gosling as his first summer signing.

Howe has been linked by the rumour mill with several players during the past couple of weeks – although he never comments publicly on speculation.

Cherries saw off some strong competition to secure the services of Gosling, the midfielder agreeing terms on a four-year contract following his release by Newcastle.

Asked by the Daily Echo whether any other signings were in the pipeline, Howe replied: “We are always looking to improve the squad and looking to move forward. We will always be looking at players to see if there are any out there who could improve what we have.”

Howe ended his lengthy pursuit of Gosling – with talks having started in January – when the 24-year-old finalised terms earlier this month, with the move still subject to a medical.

Reports last week suggested Howe was lining up a move for highly-rated Coventry City striker Callum Wilson as a possible replacement for Lewis Grabban.

Grabban was given permission to talk to Cardiff City after the Bluebirds had triggered a £3million release clause in his Cherries contract.

However, when contacted by the Daily Echo, a Cherries official confirmed there had been no developments regarding Grabban’s situation.

The striker, who netted 22 times for Cherries last season and finished the campaign as one of the leading goalscorers in the Championship, is currently on holiday.

Wilson, 22, was voted Coventry’s player of the year after plundering 22 goals in League One for the Sky Blues and is also reportedly a target for Wolves and Nottingham Forest.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports have suggested defender Steve Cook is wanted by Premier League new boys Burnley, while Celtic striker Georgios Samaras is rumoured to be a target for Cherries.

I suppose until the grabban Cooke and lallana situation is sorted out , eddies hands are tied . I just hope if Cooke and grabbs are to leave , it's sooner rather than later . So Eddie doesn't lose potential targets to another team ..

Nothing new here all available on rumour sites along with a Collinson v Surman rumour as Jack has been released by the Hammers.

Agree with Nat would prefer to see our business done early but there are obstacles in the way, primarily Lallana, as our budget may well hinge on that transfer happening or not as the case may be.

Eddie won't go to saints , he's already refused them once , Eddie has got a ambition with AFCB , he wants to get us in the prem . Then maybe he will leave if a big club like man u or arsenal or Liverpool , come in for him . Not the likes of saints , also saints are very unstable at the moment . Why do you think their manager is leaving .

I have heard names in the frame for the Saints job and none of them are Eddie Howe.

I must say I feel a "bit" sorry for Southampton if they do lose their manager and better players. They did quite well last season with decent football and I as a Cherries fan appreciate what that sort of asset stripping feels like.

Eddie is said by Radio Solent to be one of four names on the Saints "wish list" , but who knows, this is the season of rumours and guesses. The Saints job could be a "poison chalice" any way, with the Owner wanting out , the Club in a heavy loss situation and the sale of up to four of their better players mooted, their current Manager clearly didn't get the assurances he sought about retaining his star players and his playing budget hence his departure, whilst it would be a tempter for Eddie - he wouldn't have to move , I do believe that he would want to complete the job that he has started here, he is a loyal man who loves the Club and has a good relationship with the owner and his backing.. Wilson does seem the type of player Eddie likes to recruit but as others have said, until the Grabham situation etc are resolved nothing much is likely to happen.

I wonder if Saints would deny all knowledge of approaching Howe again like last time, LOL.

There's plenty of slack left in us yet before Howe has taken us as far as he can, when we can't go any further will be when Howe could rightly look elsewhere. But whilst we have the good support and funds to keep going, there's no reason he'd be interested in a move.

Saints have hit the top of their cycle and will have a period of decline whilst they're picked apart by bigger clubs, football is like that. We're still on an upward curve and we'll hit our peak at some point as well, just not sure when because of our somewhat uncharted territory in the modern era. But it will hit us sometime.

I don't wish Saints any ill particularly, but as a Soton based Cherry it does make me cringe regarding how bipolar they are. They've gone from being the proudest, happiest, most smug gits any football fan could possibly be - to wrist slashingly depressed at it all. There's never any perspective or balance with them.

I have stated this before. Southampton poses the biggest threat to us losing Eddie and Jason.
.
This is simply because they are in the Premiership and the fact that they are only up the road. A move to the Saints would mean that they would not need to move from their current residencies and they would not need to uproot their families, plus it presents an ideal opportunity to manage in the Premiership with little personal upheaval. The lure could, and I mean could, be too much of a temptation. Despite their financial limitations they would still be able to offer more in wages than AFCB .
.
If history has taught us anything it is - there is no loyalty in football. - Unfortunately money talks and is the root of all evil.
.
It is understood that this is all speculation and may be of no substance whatsoever. But should the worst happen it will have a catastrophic effect on AFCB with players wanting to follow him and the effect it will have on players joining us.
.
Of course I and no doubt all of us hope that they resist the temptation and carry on the excellent work they have done at AFCB.

A possibility Arry could end up going to Scummers!? Less travelling for him nearer home etc, I know it was ill fated last time for him but stranger things happen?!

In my opinion he didn't/doesn't seem happy at QPR and by all accounts didn't hang around after and came straight home for an Italian meal out. The body language to me said it all, so watch this space.

In regards to Eddie, I think Smhinto is right, the Scum do pose the biggest threat to us in relation to him leaving us for another club. They are close, and are in the Premiersh*t. I couldn't see him going to another Championship club now, given our circumstances at present but Soton may be a tempting offer? Lets hope he goes nowhere, but...........

I'm not worried about the Manager rumours. Like many hear I believe EH has more sense & loyalty than that - especially having been "burnt" one.

The story above is actually about transfers. How much money do we think EH will have to spend? After all, the Grabbs, Lallana & maybe Cookie money will presumably go to pay off debts before the FFP deadline.

Unless of course we are planning to do a QPR !

Eddie wont be going to Saints .His ambitions are higher than that.
He is going to have a crack at getting AFCB up in to the Premiership,
When his contract exspires ,and he hasnt got us there ,he may be tempted elsewhere
The ground needs a lot of upgrading , For a start The four corners need to be enclosed,+Plus a new Larger stand at the Ted Mac end,
We have a catchment area the size of Bristol,We can easily get 20,000 in ,
In the 1970 s.We often had between 15,000-24000 suporters at the old Dean Crt,That was when we were in the 3rd div.
I remember the match against Aston Villa,We had 24,0000 in for that match ,And AFCB won 3-1,
So come on Mr Demon ,Lets upgrade ,and get to the top,.

We hardly sold out/filled the stadium this season!

Lets sell out consistently week in week out before talk of increasing capacity. I am talking selling out against the likes of Rotherham/Huddersfie
ld/Blackpool etc etc not just the Notts Forest/Leeds etc etc. We need to sell out against the lesser teams in other words.

Don't get me wrong I would love it to be sold out to 15/20k and the corners filled etc but in honesty I can't see it every week. As an example we sell out against Liverpoo but on the Tuesday against Huddersfield we only have 7k in the ground.

EH has had a great return to DC so will he stay or go? I have met him and the team letting their hair down on a couple of club occasions. I don't think he is as sly as some others in football we all agree that most really are. If we are a club with ambition and he is of the same mind then we shall see if cash is king... Great remarks as always above me and most posts accept that EH will always be subject of speculation. If Spurs had made a move for him with their cash then it would take a very brave man to tell the Missus that he was staying put in our 'little' town...
I really will be very surprised if EH would walk away leaving the job here half done. I know that we don't own diddly but the club looks great doesn't it? We have a reasonable, hopefully affordable squad. We also have the greatest fans in the world...We have been through hell and back this last decade and yet, now, I wouldn't change that experience for the world. It has made me appreciate and value all that sit about me and the great efforts made by some at the club. BTW 5 years ago I was sitting in the Executive seats, many times with empty seats about me with my prawn flavoured crisps...Now I am in the SF Stand behind the goal and enjoying every minute! Up the Cherries! The heart beat of the club is the fan. Eddie knows that. If he left I would only forgive him if he was going to Real Madrid!

Cardiff have now signed Federico Macheda as well as Javi Guerra with Le Fondre a potential target as mentioned earlier. Soon they will have more strikers than a box of swan!! Can't see Lewis going there on this basis but I guess the other interested clubs will be sniffing round again!

Just to put a couple of urban myths to bed here. The Aston Villa match had an official attendance of 20,305 and in the four "glory" years the average attendance at Dean Court was 8,676 in 1971, 12,991 in 1972, 12,268 in 1973 and 8,981 in 1974 and the highest ever was in 1948 when we averaged 16,854. So we could not have "often" had 15,000 - 24,000, could we? Maybe three games from memory. Bolton, Brighton and Villa.

And AFCB beat Aston Villa 3-0 btw.

I would have a word with your memory.

Well it was a long time ago old chum,
For your info ,When we played Brighton, under John Bond we had 18,000 in .
So dont be so smug,
I am not talking about an average ,I was just pointing out the support is there,
You sound like you could be a Saints/Pompey sup ,.But I exspect you will come back on and tell me that there was only 19,999 at the Brighton match ,,and you have been a supporter since 1923,

I think it was actually 3-0 that day, cromwell, and maybe 'only' 24,000 rather than 10 times that number :-) Couldn't make though, coz I was playing myself. Still, made the return game at Villa Park, the day of THAT Supermac goal. Thrilling times, just like now.
