CAPTAIN Chris Park is confident that Dorset will be a tougher nut to crack once three-day cricket kicks in, admitting the one-dayers do not suit his fledgling side.
Ahead of their final Unicorns Trophy Group One game against Cornwall at Werrington on Sunday (11am), only a mathematical near-miracle would see Dorset progress beyond the initial stages.
That would leave Dorset to focus solely on their MCCA Championship Western Division campaign, due to begin when Devon visit on Sunday, June 8.
For Park, the longer form of the game will play more into Dorset’s hands, insisting the county’s younger players can come to the fore.
Park said: “We’re a team full of all-rounders and we’re a team that enjoys each other’s company. In a lot of three-day games, our team spirit carries us through.
“That’s not to say we haven’t got ability as well, and that combination will make us more competitive in three-day games.
“It suits us as a younger team. There’s pressures in one-day cricket and when you’re watching the scoreboard things can escalate, whereas in three-day cricket it’s a matter of time and patience, and, hopefully, that’s where the younger lads can come into their own a bit more.”
