Older people and volunteers will be among the Aberaeron people visited by Police and Crime Commissioner Christopher Salmon on May 30.

His Your Voice day of activity in and around the Ceredigion town is also due to see him talk with others such as church members and police officers.

Additionally, a 90-minute surgery at County Hall, Market Street, will see Mr Salmon meet individuals and small groups privately with 20-minute appointments from 11.30am. Bookings are being taken by phone on 01267 226440.

Mr Salmon said: “Your Voice Aberaeron is about me gaining a greater understanding of the crime and policing needs of local people.

“This will be a people-focused day; I’m confident that local people will wish to air their views. As their voice in crime and policing I need to understand their thoughts.”

Those due to meet Mr Salmon in Aberaeron include Carwen Davies and Dr Helen Herbert, of the town’s dementia-friendly community initiative. Holy Trinity church-goers and Vicar Rev Canon John Lewis will meet Mr Salmon in the Church Hall, Bridge Street. Harbour master Peter Evans is due to offer his thoughts at the Harbour Office.

The Commissioner oversees an annual Dyfed-Powys policing fund of around £100m. As the elected voice of the public, he makes the police answerable to the communities they serve.

He works in partnership across a range of agencies to ensure a unified approach to preventing and reducing crime.

In his first 18 months in office, his key achievements have included more police officers, improved access to the police, reduced policing costs, the launch of the Commissioner's Fund for community initiatives and a launch grant for a rural policing centre.

Mr Salmon plans 12 Your Voice days through 2014 – three in each Dyfed-Powys county of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys.

The schedule includes Cardigan (November 25).
