I assume that Marabout’s comment (‘From the Web’, May 19) was simply a mischievous, tongue-in-cheek contribution to add spice to the badger cull controversy.

But Marabout: beware. Your statement that all badgers should be obliterated because they can not be eaten, worn or ridden could be applied to that parasitic species known as homo sapiens.

It is difficult to be impartial about one’s own kind, but I think that were our planet to be visited by intelligent beings from another sphere, they would be unlikely to smile benignly and become all misty-eyed over us.

More likely, they would take one look and declare, like Daleks: ‘Exterminate’. It would save us much trouble, since we spend a great deal of our time trying to kill one another by whatever means are available.

If I am mistaken, and the letter is meant to be taken seriously, and Marabout really is arrogant enough to believe that all other creatures exist solely for our benefit, why not act as a superior human being and use a proper signature, instead of hiding behind the anonymity of a silly, sexless internet name?
