Farley v Amport II.

Amport II’s league campaign started in encouraging fashion with a maximum 24 point victory at Farley A rare winning toss saw skipper Darren Goacher elect to field first on a green pitch and the new ball and second team newcomer and club captain Leighton Bone made sure that Amport put the opposition under pressure from the off.

Bowling unchanged downhill Bone produced an unplayable master class. And well supported by the equally impressive 15-year old Ben Black, Bone eventually made the breakthrough in the 15th over with score only on 21 and finished with 10-3-1-12.

Sam Birks then produced a fine spell of inswing bowling and ran through the Farley top order to finish with figures of 9-1-4-30 and at halfway Farley were struggling at 37-5.

Skipper Goacher bowled another mesmeric spell finishing with 5-25 and faced with a small target on a small ground the Redcaps were soon struggling at 12-2 with Jim Gilmour and Martin Randall back in the hutch.

Veteran keeper Martyn Startup and teen prospect Robert Randall had other ideas until with the total on 81 Startup was bowled for 37.

Birks and Randall posted a quick 50 run partnership with Randall 59no and Birks 37.

In the company of Tom Startup, Randall crashed a four through the covers to secure a six wicket win.
