INCOMING Cherries recruit Dan Gosling admitted his four-year spell at Newcastle United had been “tough mentally” after the midfielder found his chances limited at St James’s Park.

Cherries are set to complete a move for Gosling subject to a medical, with the 24-year-old due to pen a deal that will tie him to Dean Court until 2018.

Arriving at the Magpies in summer 2010 with a ruptured cruciate knee ligament sustained while at Everton, Gosling went on to make just 36 appearances for the Toon.

And the former Plymouth man admits he is relishing the thought of starting a new chapter in his career.

“The last few years have been tough mentally,” Gosling told afcb.co.uk.

“People suggest I was injured a lot, but I was only injured for four months two seasons before last.

“Other than that, I have been fit and have trained every day. I just wasn’t being selected, which was tough.

“But this year I found myself in the team, playing well and my performance level was going up with every game. It was just too little, too late for me at Newcastle.

“I was looking for the chance to play regular football and a club that aspires to be bigger and better. I think that’s what I’ve got.”
