MANAGER Carl Poore wants Verwood Town to take inspiration from Sholing’s FA Vase victory by embarking on a morale-boosting march to Wembley’s arch.

The Southampton-based Wessex League champions took the honours with a 1-0 success over West Auckland Town at the home of English football on Saturday.

And Poore, appointed successor to Adie Arnold in April, believes his own club should be seeking the spotlight with the Boatmen’s victory raising the profile of the whole league.

“I think the Wessex League is one of the best around and that has been proved again with Sholing winning the Vase,” said Poore.

“As a player, I had very successful runs in both the FA Cup and FA Vase and it brings a huge aura to the club. Players feel really wanted with the coverage you get and it’s great for the club.

“It’s not just the players who get something out of a cup run, it's the club and the town as a whole. You have to look at the financial side of it as well and there is good money involved.

“The prize money in the two FA competitions now can make a big difference to the season as a whole. Non-league clubs who do well can cover their expenses for the season.

"We have to go out to do well in the cup competitions. I got to the semi-final (of the Vase) as a player and a Wessex League side have just won it so that proves we all have a chance.”
