Cricket: Poole Town skipper Kristian Wilson pleased with accomplished performance

KRISTIAN Wilson was a contented skipper after guiding Poole Town to an opening-day victory over Premier One rivals Stalbridge.

Badrul Alam (76) and Ciaran Quinn (32) made Stalbridge pay for choosing to field first as Poole Town racked up 218 for eight from their 50 overs.

And with Joe Wilson (4-19) and captain Wilson (2-6) both among the wickets, Stalbridge were stopped well short at 153 as Poole Town eased home by 65 runs.

Wilson said: “Everybody’s pre-season was a wash-out so we were a bit green and Stalbridge were missing a few players.

“But it was a good game and we played well. We have a young side this season and it was a very accomplished performance.”

Champions Parley opened their defence of the title with a convincing six-wicket win over Weymouth at a sun-drenched Dean Park.

The Seasiders were soon regretting their decision to bat first and made slow progress on what appeared to be a difficult track.

Dom Clutterbuck (4-19) starred with the ball for Parley as Weymouth laboured to 117, the visitors finally put out of their misery in the 46th over.

Although Rob Viney went in the first over of Parley’s reply, new skipper Tom Jacques (55) and Adam Cocking (34) shared 97 for the second wicket before Roshan Embalagama and Ollie Green saw them home in the 25th over.
