A REVIVED Birmingham will face Poole at Perry Barr tomorrow as the Brummies aim to arrest a disappointing run of results.

That is the opinion of Pirates chief Matt Ford, who insists his riders will take nothing for granted when they clash with the top-flight’s bottom side (7.30pm).

Poole are aiming to make it five Elite League victories on the spin against a club that last week lost the services of co-promoter Graham Drury.

Ford told the Daily Echo: “We will go there with confidence, but many of Birmingham’s riders will be riding for their team places and that often makes people perform much better.

“I’ve never known someone like Edward Kennett run four lasts as he did against King’s Lynn last week, which shows that riders can have any number of problems.

“Birmingham are very unhappy with the way performances have been so far and will be keen to bounce back, so I expect to meet a different team.”

Meanwhile, Ford has stated that the best is yet to come from Chris Holder following the 2012 world champion’s recent return to Wimborne Road.

The Ringwood-based club asset has replaced Darcy Ward in the one-to-seven for a month and is homing in on the 2,500 points barrier in the skull and crossbones.

Ford said: “Chris has come in and is riding himself back into fitness. This isn’t the best of Chris Holder at the moment but I know things take time and he will get there.

“He’s helping the club in its hour of need and hopefully we’re doing likewise in helping him get back to being the rider we all know and love.”

On Sunday, Ward raced in his first meeting since sustaining a broken thumb and damage to his left knee in the New Zealand Grand Prix nearly three weeks ago.

The two-time world under-21 champion bagged 15 points in Torun’s 60-30 demoliton of Wroclaw in Poland’s Ekstraliga.

Ward is due to return to the Pirates line-up in time to face Lakeside on Wednesday, May 14.
