A SIXTH consecutive defeat finally ensured the wooden spoon for threadbare Bashley despite a valiant effort in yesterday's 3-1 reverse at St Neots.

Having arrived at Rowley Park with just 12 fit and available players, Bash were further hampered by an injury to Lewis Blackmore during the opening quarter of an hour.

But against all odds, Manny Soetan handed the visitors a shock lead on 18 minutes, planting the ball beyond Nathan Abbey after dispossessing Saints defender Jordi Nkinga.

Shane Tolley levelled before the interval but Bash seemed set for a share of the spoils until Ben Ford’s 25-yard thunderbolt two minutes from time broke their resistance.

Lewis Hilliard got the third from the penalty spot.

Bash: George, Rolls, Flint, Ansell, Marden, Manders, Roberts, Strickland, Joyce, Soetan, Blackmore (Gazzard, 15).

  • MARK Gamble’s 29th league goal of the season earned Wimborne Town a 1-1 draw at Cinderford Town in Southern South & West.

Magpies had the better of the first-half exchanges with Gamble getting the final touch on George Webb’s corner after 29 minutes.

The hosts battled back after half-time and Andy Lewis grabbed a deserved equaliser from the penalty spot.

Matt Kemble is doubtful for tomorrow’s home clash with title hopefuls Tiverton Town (3pm).

Magpies: Harvell, Arnold, Maybury, Oliver, Donachy, Blake, Griffin, Kemble (Grose, 67), Stokoe, Gamble, Webb (Brimson, 85). Unused subs: Battison, Roast.

  • ENGLAND international darts star Scott Mitchell will take centre stage when Wimborne Town host a charity day in aid of Julia’s House tomorrow.

Supporters at Cuthbury can play a leg of 501 against Mitchell – and get the chance to win a set of signed darts – by making a £10 donation to the children’s hospice.

The Magpies have supplied a 2014-15 season ticket for a charity prize draw, while the club will also be taking a collection for the Dorset-based charity.

Mitchell’s darts challenge will get under way in the clubhouse at 1pm before Magpies’ home match.
