HEAD coach Paul Dunne believes Bournemouth can again revel in their role as spoilers as they prepare to host play-off chasing Ampthill & District on Saturday (2.30pm).

Despite being doomed to the drop themselves, Lions ran in eight tries to secure their biggest win of the season six days ago, a 56-19 success over relegation-haunted Chinnor.

Bedfordshire-based Ampthill travel to Chapel Gate knowing victory in their penultimate National Two South fixture will put them in pole position for the single promotion play-off spot behind champions Hartpury.

However, free from their thankless battle to prevent Bournemouth falling through the trapdoor, Dunne reckons his players will be well-placed to cause an upset in director of rugby Budge Pountney’s final home match.

Dunne told the Daily Echo: “It was amazing what a difference it made having no pressure on the lads, we were brilliant and absolutely destroyed Chinnor. Everyone was relaxed and felt like they could go out and just enjoy it.

“While we might have no control over where we’re going this season, the fixtures give us a bit of control over what happens elsewhere so it is a good opportunity to put down a marker, play well and have a bit of fun with it.

"The lads are really looking forward to playing against a good side and everyone wants to give Budge a good send-off too.”

Josh Terry, scorer of the second try in last week’s triumph, faces a late fitness test but Dunne anticipates Lions naming an otherwise unchanged squad.
