DAME Sarah Storey won gold and silver at the recent Paracycling world track championships.

Storey, who is a second claim member of Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers, had to settle for third place in the 500-metre time trial but triumphed in both the 3km individual pursuit and the scratch race.

New tandem pairing Sophie Thornhill and Rachel James won gold in the 1km time trial and the match sprint with Neil Fachie and Pete Mitchell winning the men’s event.

Jody Cundy made up for his disqualification at the London Paralympics by winning the C4 Kilo in a world record 1:01.466, a time that would have put him in the top 20 in the able-bodied event.

Jo-Alan Butterworth won silver in the C5 Kilo and bronze in the pursuit.

The championships were held at altitude in Aguascalientes, Mexico, with the temperature inside the Velodrome topping 42 degrees making conditions extremely challenging.

Verwood’s multi Paralympic medallist Darren Kenny was not selected for the championships and will have to work hard to regain his place in the squad as attention turns to the Paralympic Games in Rio in 2016.

  • Steve Groome clocked 24:14 to win the Bournemouth Jubilee 10 at Furzehill. Cliff Rowe (BJW) finished nine seconds down in second place.

Poole Wheelers veteran Terry Icke came 16th in the Yeovil CC 10 at Podimore with a time of 22:29.
