Poole Pirates: Reserve Kyle Newman set for further X-rays
KYLE Newman is set for further X-rays on the leg injury he sustained while riding for Plymouth at Peterborough in the Premier League Cup last night.
Initial scans appeared to show that the Pirates reserve had escaped a break following his heat 12 smash at the East of England Showground.
However, the Poole-born ace's left leg is still swollen and further X-rays will take place today once this has subsided, to make certain that Newman has not suffered serious injury.
Newman tweeted in the early hours of this morning: "X-rays show nothing broke but very unclear with huge swelling, more X-rays tomorrow."
He later added: "Leg is killing me! Can't sleep".
Poole promoter Matt Ford and team boss Neil Middleditch will be hoping that Newman is not sidelined for a prolonged period given that he has been in superb form in the opening two meetings of the Elite League campaign.
Ford said: "Right now I just feel for Kyle.
"He was doing what he enjoys doing most and we saw on Monday just exactly how much his riding has come on this season.
"I understand that he had a very uncomfortable night and that is concerning.
"We will know more once the further tests have been performed but the loss of Kyle from our side is a major blow for the team, but most of all for Kyle himself.
"I'm sure I speak on behalf of all Poole fans when I wish him a speedy recovery."
Pirates are already contending with the absence of number one Darcy Ward, sidelined due to injuries sustained in the New Zealand Grand Prix.
He was replaced by club asset Chris Holder for a month-long temporary spell on Monday.
