PAUL Dunne felt a lack of pressure played into Bournemouth’s hands as they trounced Chinnor 56-19 at Chapel Gate yesterday.

Already relegated from National Two South, Lions steamrollered their stunned opponents early on as they roared into a 29-0 lead inside 16 minutes.

Although the visitors stemmed the onslaught to an extent, four further tries saw the hosts charge to maximum points.

Head coach Dunne told the Daily Echo: “The first 16 minutes was just fantastic. We just got stuck into them and scored four brilliant tries.

“I had great fun on the sidelines watching them play – it was brilliant and it just shows the potential that’s there. I would have paid to see it, but fortunately I don’t have to.

“Pressure is an amazing thing. We had no pressure on us at all and Chinnor had all the pressure on them because they are still fighting and don’t know whether they are going to stay up or go down.

“The difference a week makes is amazing and the players went out and played brilliantly. Chinnor looked really nervous and under-pressure and I think they were a bit shell-shocked.”

Wing Wyn Roberts got Lions off the mark with a try inside two minutes and George Drake added a penalty soon after. Josh Terry then touched down before Roberts got his second, both converted by number 10 Drake.

The bonus-point try came in the 16th minute courtesy of Russell Westcott, again converted, before the visitors hit back with a converted score to reduce the arrears to 36-7 at the break.

Drake kicked another penalty after the restart before back row pair Gavin Hart and Joe Rees added the fifth and sixth tries.

Chinnor staged a modest late rally as they crossed the whitewash twice, but Jack Metters finished matters off for the home side, scoring an interception try before adding the extras himself.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth are expected to name a replacement for outgoing director of rugby Budge Pountney this week. Pountney is to leave the club at the end of the season due to personal reasons.
