PAUL Gazzard’s day to remember turned into a day to forget as relegated Bashley were hammered 7-0 by Biggleswade.
The player-boss made his 300th appearance for the New Forest club and was honoured with a presentation before proceedings began at Bashley Road.
However, the Southern Premier fixture did not unfold in the manner that Gazzard – who started in midfield – might have hoped.
Sam Reed’s 27th-minute spot kick put Biggleswade ahead and Jon Woolf doubled the advantage following a well-worked set piece.
Six minutes into the second half, Reed lashed in a third and matters went from bad to worse as goalkeeper Nic Jones was sent off for bringing down Nat Peacock.
Reed’s resulting penalty made it 4-0 and Craig Daniel piled further misery on the demoralised hosts, before Woolf and Peacock completed the rout.
Bash: Jones, Rolls, Roberts, Ansell, Marden, Strickland, Gazzard (George, 58), Soetan (Brookes, 73), Joyce (Manders, 78), Odam, Morris.
