KYLE Newman cannot wait for Chris Holder to return to Elite League action and says the 2012 world champion’s month-long cameo will give Pirates a big boost.

Asset Holder has been brought into the Poole one-to-seven for the next four weeks in place of fellow Aussie Darcy Ward, after the two-time world under-21 champion was injured in a New Zealand Grand Prix smash eight days ago.

And reserve Newman feels Holder’s temporary foray into British racing in 2014 – starting against Coventry tomorrow – will provide Pirates with a huge shot in the arm.

He told the Daily Echo: “Craig Cook did a great job for us as a guest against Eastbourne, but with someone of Chris’s stature and ability stepping in, that’s going to be an improvement.

“That’s no disrespect to Craig who is a man on the way up and who put everything into it on Wednesday after taking the booking at short notice.

“But everyone knows Chris has a massive amount of ability and we look forward to him coming in.”

Poole head into the Sky Sports-televised meeting off the back of a 52-37 win over the Eagles and Newman knows it is crucial to keep momentum going in the second league fixture of the year.

He said: “There’s always an added spice with Coventry, I don’t know why, but that adds to the occasion.

“If you can get our morale and confidence high from the start then it just rolls on throughout the year.

“We all know what happens come play-off time – we have to up our game once we get there.”
