AFC Bournemouth star Matt Ritchie: Yann Kermorgant is perfect for me

Bournemouth Echo: WINGER: Matt Ritchie WINGER: Matt Ritchie

CHERRIES star Matt Ritchie has hailed the impact of striker Yann Kermorgant, describing the Frenchman as “perfect for me”.

Kermorgant, a bargain £400,000 buy from Charlton in January, has been a key figure in Cherries’ late surge towards the Championship play-offs.

The 32-year-old has netted six times in 11 appearances – and has helped Eddie Howe’s rampant team register no fewer than 19 goals in his six starts.

Ritchie, who scored twice during the midweek win over Reading, told the Daily Echo: “Yann is a pleasure to play alongside and, personally, I love it when he is in the team.

“He is great with his feet, he is intelligent and he scores goals. I am not the quickest and he gives me a licence to go inside and play off the front of him. He sets you up for shots and is very clever.

“He has given us a different dimension and I have enjoyed playing with him. He has linked superbly with Lewis Grabban and has a made a big difference since he has come in.

“I wouldn’t call him a target man because there is a lot more to his game and that doesn’t do him justice. He is unbelievably skilful with his feet and a real threat.”

Ritchie, who missed the first four months of the season due to a thigh injury, is hoping to continue his rapid climb through the divisions following an impressive debut campaign in the Championship.

The 24-year-old, who was crowned League Two player of the year in 2011-12 and League One player of the year last season, added: “I am enjoying every minute of playing and am over the moon to be in the Championship. We’ve got a great squad and it is a really good time to be here.

“The manager has given me a great platform to play and express myself and I am surrounded by very good players. Playing at this level is what you dream about when you are young. I am thoroughly enjoying it and long may it continue. The club is going forward and has great backing from the owner.”

Ritchie will be hoping to help Cherries make it six wins in succession when they meet struggling Yeovil Town at Huish Park tomorrow (3.07pm kick-off).

“People will look at it and think we should win comfortably but it is going to be tough,” said Ritchie. “We need to keep our feet on the ground and keep doing what we have been doing.

“Mentality is going to be key now and we can’t take our foot off the gas. We need to keep pushing, training hard and doing the right things. If we do the simple things well, hopefully we can be in with a shout.”

Yann does appear to be the catalyst that has bonded the team together, a great passer of the ball and so good in the air and working so well with the hardworking Grabbham who must cover every balde of grass on the pit ch each game, a real miss if he's unfit tomorrow. Every game now will be a "cup tie" , especially the Ipswich game, we just can't afford to drop a point. I would have liked to have seen Yeovil stay up, a nice Club, but we need to win there tomorrow and believe that we will. Good luck tomorrow lads!.

IMO, Brett deserves a start if Grabbs is out. He's been just the man to bring on in the last two games no disrespect but TK wouldn't have cleared off the line against QPR or be physical enough against Reading.

My head tells me this is an Eddie smokescreen and Grabbs will be pumped-up and centre stage again tommorrow.

Or perhaps Fraser up front with yann ... After the last 2 games we have played , we need someone with a physical presence about them . Also the whole team look more confident because they have know they have got no weak links in the team . Surely people must of seen that a lot of the players do not pass the ball to rantie . They only pass it when there is not a alternative . Especially Ritchie and arter ..

Sorry to go slightly off thread but my son has a ticket for the match tomorrow and I remember seeing someone posting on a thread a couple of weeks ago with some advice for anyone driving to the Yeovil ground. Something about stopping at a pub then having a short walk to the away stand? If you are reading this, please could you repeat the details for me to pass on to my son? Many thanks.

Put it in the mixer says...

Kermorgant and Grabban are a perfect pairing, balance of pace, power, touch, energy and aerial ability. Its this mix that has propelled the team forward lately and inspired confidence across the rest of the team. If Grabban is unfit you cannot go with Pitman alongside - where's the pace? It must be Rantie, or even Fraser. And, it must be 2 upfront.

If Grabban doesnt pass the fitness test then Rantie to start?
Lets up the noise even more if thats possible
I think Brett deserves a chance , if not why not play surman up front . And play McDonald in midfield .
I really do think you should stick to knitting.
