9:48pm

Join us again for another liveblog when Cherries visit Yeovil on Saturday.

9:47pm

Brighton and Ipswich also won tonight against Leicester and Huddersfield respectively. It's getting tight at the top.

9:46pm

Poole Town win the Dorset Senior Cup after beating Hamworthy United 2-0 at the Cuthbury.

9:46pm

Cherries go within two points of the play-offs with that result, also climbing a place to ninth.

9:42pm

That's it. Cherries win 3-1. Cracking result.

9:41pm

Shaun MacDonald is on as a late sub. Off comes Ritchie.

9:39pm

Pitman’s free kick is well over the top. It won’t matter a jot.

9:38pm

Four minutes of added time.

9:34pm

Brett Pitman on for Grabban.

9:34pm

Obita is late on O’Kane.

9:28pm

Ryan Fraser booked for a challenge on Chris Gunter.

9:27pm

Attendance tonight = 11,182.

9:25pm

Just a glimmer of hope for the Royals. Robson-Kanu finds a route low to Camp’s left and it’s 3-1. That was a terrific low hit.

9:22pm

Ryan Fraser on for Pugh. Reading have used all three of their subs.

9:14pm

Grabban goes close from the edge of the penalty area.

9:11pm

Pugh runs unchallenged from midfield and tries his luck from 20 yards, but the ball zips wide of the left upright.

9:11pm

Ritchie swings in a deep cross from the right but the unmarked Pugh can only head down and wide. Half-decent opportunity.

9:04pm

Poole still 1-0 up against Hamworthy.

9:03pm

Cherries understandably adopting a more pragmatic approach now. They are having less of the ball but Reading are struggling to stretch them.

8:59pm

A quiet start to the second period.

8:57pm

The home fans are cheering every pass.

8:52pm

8:50pm

The players are back out.

8:49pm

The good news for Cherries is that Wigan and Forest are losing. Bad news, Brighton and Ipswich are both 2-0 up.

8:45pm

This is going to have to be the mother of all half-time team talks from Nigel Adkins. Frome Eddie Howe's point of view - more of the same please.

8:43pm

Poole are 1-0 up against Hamworthy in the final of the Dorset Senior Cup.

8:38pm

8:37pm

Former Chelsea left-back Wayne Bridge completely falls asleep with the ball heading towards the dead-ball line and Francis storms past him and clips a delicate cross into the near post, where Kermorgant dives to head in number three. What a night for Eddie Howe’s men.

8:30pm

Grabban streaks clean through on goal with three Reading players trailing in his wake. You’d put your house on him finding the net, but he pushes low past the far-right corner. That surely would have put the game to bed.

8:28pm

Another well-worked set piece from the hosts. Ian Harte’s deep corner is headed back across by Ritchie and skipper Tommy Elphick sends his overhead kick clear of the bar.

8:24pm

All the meaningful attacks are coming from Cherries. You can see belief is coarsing through their veins. Playing some great stuff.

8:23pm

Grabban beats Kaspars Gorkss with ease and sits up a cross for Yann Kermorgant, whose close-range header is clawed away brilliantly by McCarthy. That looked 3-0 all the way.

8:21pm

Ritchie leathers a free kick from miles out and it takes a deflection on its way past the right post. A hat-trick inside half an hour wouldn’t have been bad and that wasn’t far away.

8:18pm

Robson-Kanu centres but Adam Le Fondre’s shot is weak and straight at Camp.

8:18pm

Some wi-fi issues at Dean Court I'm afraid...

8:09pm

A neat team move ends with Grabban’s shot being blocked, but Cherries win it back and the ball falls to Ritchie on the edge of the area and he passes it beautifully into the bottom left corner. The home side are flying.

8:05pm

McCarthy blocks after Grabban shoots from a narrow angle. The Cherries striker would have been better off squaring to Marc Pugh. It would have been a tap-in.

8:02pm

Drenthe had a daisy-cutter saved by Camp, but that's about as much as the Royals have done so far.

7:56pm

Lewis Grabban is released in acres of space down the left and his ball across the face is left by Andrew Surman, allowing the unmarked Matt Ritchie to slam low past Alex McCarthy. That should settle any nerves.

7:53pm

Simon Francis tries to head clear and Jordan Obita's volley is superbly saved one-handed by Lee Camp. Explosive start.

7:51pm

7:47pm

We're hearing Hal Robson-Kanu is in for Danny Guthrie after the latter got injured in the warm-up.

7:44pm

Here come the teams.

7:41pm

It's a sell-out here. Can't beat a midweek game with a big atmosphere and we're going to get one tonight.

7:37pm

Remember that surreal moment when Cherries played Real Madrid in a pre-season friendly? Well, we've got a bit of that magic again tonight. The wonderfully-named Royston Drenthe, a Real Madrid old boy, will feature in the Reading midfield.

7:34pm

It's the Dorset Senior Cup final tonight with Hamworthy United taking on higher-division Poole Town at the Cuthbury. Updates to follow throughout the night.

7:27pm

Lovely spring evening, Clear and cold. All positive signs and don't forget, Cherries haven't lost a midweek home game since February 26 last year.

7:23pm

Eunan O'Kane is in for the suspended Harry Arter while Shaun MacDonald is restored to the bench.

7:14pm

Royals: McCarthy, Gunter, Pearce, Gorkss, Bridge; Drenthe, Guthrie, McAnuff, Obita; Le Fondre, Pogrebnyak. Subs: Federici (g/k), Kelly, Leigertwood, McCleary, Morrison, Robson-Kanu, Blackman.

7:13pm

Cherries: Camp; Francis, Elphick, Cook, Harte; Ritchie, Surman, O'Kane, Pugh; Kermorgant Grabban. Subs: Allsop (g/k), Smith, Ward, MacDonald, Pitman, Rantie, Fraser.

7:09pm

Good evening and welcome to Dean Court. It's a big night ahead as Cherries take on Championship play-off rivals Reading. Teams to follow...
