EDDIE Howe said he had been flattered to hear some supporters had described Cherries’ demolition of Leeds as the club’s best display of recent times.

But despite the bouquets, the Cherries boss insisted his players would not be resting on their laurels as they looked to finish the season with a flourish.

Informed of supporters’ comments by the Daily Echo, Howe said: “If that is what they have been saying then it is really nice to hear.

“But I would like to think there is more to come and that we can do better. There were certain elements of our performance that were top drawer but, as always, I am still looking at areas we can improve and do better with.

“There were some excellent passages of play and some great goals. I thought the quality of our goals were outstanding. We work really hard on our set-pieces so it was a fitting reward to score from one.

“I don’t think you ever get to a point where you feel you have reached perfection. We have more to work on and that is the exciting thing because we still believe there is better to come from the players.”

Howe, meanwhile, explained why he had used Leeds’ visit to Dean Court in 1990 to try to motivate his players and dedicated the midweek win to the club’s supporters.

“It was a dark day for the town and a lot of people still speak about it, even to this day,” said Howe. “I knew it was a big game for our supporters because of the history and we were keen to put on a good performance for them knowing how much it meant. We tried to live up to the occasion and the players certainly did.

“It has gone and is history. It was good to be able to give something back because they have been excellent for us and it was great to get the result for them.”
