WIMBORNE tasted success in their final home match of the season as they secured a 31-15 victory over North Dorset in Southern Counties South.

The Minstermen ran in five tries courtesy of Rob Best, Ollie Hamer, Luke Carey, Steve King and Andy Unwin, while Nathan Cotton and Will Tarbard added six points combined with the boot.

Wimborne took an early lead when Best received a pass from Tarbard and went over for the opening try, which was converted by Cotton.

Hamer ran in from half way after an attempted chip was blocked, only for the visitors to reply with an unconverted score.

North Dorset brought themselves level at 12-12 early in the second period thanks to a break up the short side following a rolling maul, which was converted.

A series of five-metre scrums eventually paid off for the hosts when flanker Carey crashed over, with Tarbard adding the extras.

A penalty narrowed the gap to 19-12 but with a little over a minute left, skipper King cut back inside to score a bonus-point try.

In the dying moments, Unwin went over by the posts and Tarbard slotted home to give the scoreline a glossy finish.

Wimborne are currently fifth in the table with two fixtures remaining of the 2013-14 campaign.

Wimborne: Unwin, Barker, Adams, Day, Christopher, Carey, Foley, Best, Llewellyn, Tarbard, West, King, Hamer, Stroud, Cotton, Sturney, Wright, Brown.
