JOINT-BOSS John Pyatt admitted Bashley had paid the price for an off-colour display as Weymouth eased to a 3-0 victory in the New Forest.

Terras striker Stewart Yetton slotted home from the penalty spot after home defender Luke Ansell had tangled with former Bash winger Adam Kelly on 37 minutes.

Yetton then doubled the visitors’ lead eight minutes after the restart when George Rigg’s corner was flicked on at the near post for the Weymouth hitman to apply a fortunate far-post finish.

Plymouth Argyle loanee Isaac Vassell, nephew of former England striker Darius Vassell, cut in from the left and sealed the points with a blistering 25-yard rocket across goal which left Bash keeper Monty George clutching thin air.

And while a rueful Pyatt felt Bashley had been competitive, he acknowledged Weymouth’s win had been too comfortable.

He told the Daily Echo: “We can’t fault the lads for their work rate but it’s frustrating as hell sometimes because we’re constantly up against it.

“Weymouth are a good side but we made life a bit too easy for them. Our play lacked a tempo and we made some bad decisions.

“We didn’t release the ball quickly enough when we were in good positions and never looked like punishing them.

“On reflection, we couldn’t really complain about the result because they were the better side. I was pleased with the effort but we didn’t quite get our game going.”

Bash: George, Rolls, Flint, Ansell, Marden, Bulpitt, Roberts, Soetan, Joyce (Brookes, 82), Odam, Strickland (Morris, 80). Unused subs; Gazzard, Jones (g/k).

  • A lapse in concentration proved decisive as Wimborne Town suffered a second successive setback at Didcot.

Magpies switched off from a quickly-taken throw-in and allowed Josh Dutton-Black to tee up James Mills who tapped home the only goal of the game from close range.

The 1-0 defeat, which marked Wimborne assistant manager Paul Roast’s 400th start for the Cuthbury outfit, left Steve Cuss’s side 11th in Southern South & West, 11 points off the play-off places with nine matches to play.

Magpies: Harvell, Arnold, Maybury, Oliver, Costello, Blake, Griffin, Davidson, Roast (Grose, 77), Kemble, Webb. Unused subs: Phelps, Battison, Stokoe.
