VIDEO: AFC Bournemouth legend Steve Fletcher to receive Football League's lifetime achievement award

Bournemouth Echo: LEGEND: Former AFC Bournemouth striker Steve Fletcher LEGEND: Former AFC Bournemouth striker Steve Fletcher

CHERRIES legend Steve Fletcher is to receive a special award from the Football League in recognition of a lifetime’s achievement in the game.

The 41-year-old former striker, who holds the record for the most Cherries appearances (728), will be presented with the Sir Tom Finney Award at The Brewery in London on Sunday.

Fletcher, now head of UK recruitment at Dean Court, told the Daily Echo: “I’m very honoured. I couldn’t believe it when I was told, I thought it was a wind-up.

“It’s something you don’t think will come your way when you’re starting out in football. I’m very privileged and very humbled.”

An AFCB legend and now a Football League legend, well deserved Supa!!!

I would very much like to see this announced with Fletch on the pitch before tomorrow’s game so we can show our appreciation in the usual boisterous manner and hopefully scare the cr@p out of the ‘Boro fans! It would be great to put in a few verses of Supa, Supa Fletch!!!

Why don't we all just stick to the story on fletch this time, what a legend he has been for our club, everywhere we have played fans of other teams have wanted to talk about him and have appreciated what he has done on the pitch, we have had some really top players over the last 20 years but none have ever been as popular as our Super fletch and I very much doubt any in the future will be as popular as he still is, well done fletch!!

A true legend and I mean a true legend.

Lovely bloke, honest about himself and bloody loyal and you do not get loyalty these days.

A good while ago when he had his best tally in a season he had a decent offer from a championship side for big money and he stayed because we were going well in our league, loyal to the core.

God bless the wardrobe.

When Fletcher arrived I thought that he would be just a lower division striker in the making at best. This of course was correct as he never or rarely attracted the attention on the higher division clubs. I believe that he should have hit the target more often than he did. Perhaps then he would have moved to a Championship or 2 tier club. I have spoken to him myself on more than one occasion. He is the sort of bloke that always has time for people if which is a rarity these days.
.
However, he has been a terrific servant and an example to others. He fully deserves this award for his loyalty and integrity.

Yes I did read your reply . I should point out that the bad English and poor spelling was mainly due to laziness and fatique and not due to poor I.Q.
.
I agree that name calling is somewhat out of order, but however when some tw.. (oops, I nearly did it again) implies that one has stated a slanderous comment regarding AFCB managment and players when one clearly has'nt, it does tend to try one's patience.
.
Many occasions I have answered the question concerning why I cannot attend AFC matches and why I thought (at the time) that Grabban may not have made the higher echelons. It's enough to make one spit.
I noted that no one has agreed with me that Tubbs and Demouge was not up to it. I was right. Typical I suppose.
.
It simply boils down to fact that people do not read and digest posts properly and or mis-interpret what is said. It makes me wonder how these people actually get by in everyday life.
.
I stated that we have overpaid for Rantie and Kermorgant (both excellent players they are) yet look and the personal abuse I had to endure from one particular individual yesterday. Then you may wonder why I am slowly backing down from this forum as one is clearly wasting one's time trying to put valid points across.
.
I wish you a good evening.

If you are referring to me grow up, it was not personal abuse, may I suggest as you normally like to say that you read my original post, now try to take this in, somebody posted that they were doing jury service and it meant they could get to more games than they thought, so tongue on cheek I mentioned that you and a couple of others are tried for crimes against Afcb, I hope your keeping up, you have continually questioned the managements decisions on player selection, tactics etc etc, you have also had a pop at anyone that has disagreed with you and insulted their intelligence of all things Afcb, you have made some good points in the past we all can agree on that as most things are blindingly obvious to us that watch Afcb, yes you and many others myself included did not think Tubbs was up to the championship but as he was never really given a chance we will never know, you felt that Grabban was not up to the championship but it clearly suits him more than league one,

One of the things that I like least on this site, and I am sure other do too, is when we get tempted to press that quote button and end up with long posts and get confused with who said what!.

Firstly may I clear a point about IQ I was not referring to you (smhinto) it was a general statement. Secondly can I acknowledge that name calling or trying to undermine someone is undesirable and it does not reflect our ability to put over a point and defend it with decorum and decency even if we don't happen to agree with the opposing viewpoint.

Having said that I am at a loss as to how I can make you (smhinto) grasp the fact that the majority on here is content to read your views however it is the manner in which you go about it that is the stumbling block.

Now let us celebrate the fact that Fletcher's contribution to football has been recognised in this way and let us get on with our lives and accept that old habits are very hard to change.

Have a good weekend smhinto and let us hope for three more points tomorrow.

When fletch first arrived I honestly thought that he was not going to be good 3nough. But gradually over time he grew up and became better and wiser but in my view it was not until he was out for a lengthy time that when he came back was the time that he really became the finished article. This was to the credit of steve hard and steve himself. Because it was the fitness regeme the hard put fletch through that built fletch up physically. Ok fletch didn't score stacks of goals but that was not his role! Fletch grew to be a target man. The goal he did score at the millennium stadium and his hat-trick against brentford will stick with me forever.

Then you may wonder why I am slowly backing down from this forum as one is clearly wasting one's time trying to put valid points across. . I wish you a good evening.[/p][/quote]I read your post properly and would just like to point out that spitting is a disgusting habit and I hate to see it.......I made sure my children don't do it and am disgusted that someone of your (supposed IQ) would spit just from someone diagreeing with you! However, I'm in absolute agreement with you over your very first post regarding Steve Fletcher, thoroughly deserved, he's a legend. Met him myself a couple of times, very nice guy. rednblack37

Disgrace. You aren't a fan. Big Fletch talks in a Geordie accent and refers to Bournemouth as 'we'. He's a supporter as well as a loyal player. He only left when he was told he wasn't wanted and jumped at the chance to come back. Show some class man!!

And it ' s curtains for you ! Some people just want to criticise or assume .
Lifetime achievement , comon, i would hardly call 20 years a lifetime, Maybe in another 20 years.
Your not saying much now , I think you are probably one of those fans who only saw fletch at the end of his playing days . One of the many glory hunters that we seem to have attracted since being in the championship ...

In football 20years is a lifetime, I agree with you Nat1234 no supporter of Afcb would ever have anything but good to say about Fletch, we can all disagree over players, tactics etc etc but not over fletch
